Achieving Consistency: 5 Effective Strategies for Staying Motivated and Productive
I had a deadline to meet the other day and despite not wanting to wake up to wash my ass, I got up and did it anyway, with tears flowing down my face, because I had to. I’ve always struggled with consistency and recently realized why: people in my life have never been consistent with me.
Once I had this realization, a light bulb went off. I always thought I lacked motivation (not true) or that I was inadequate (definitely not accurate) and believed I could never be consistent. Sometimes we tell ourselves things to soothe the pain instead of tackling the issue head on.
I am motivated and adequate and deserve the consistency I never received.
Here’s 5 ways I stay consistent with myself, that could help you:
I create a detailed calendar at the beginning of every month that outlines my goals and breaks them down into manageable tasks.
I check off every goal I’ve accomplished. Celebrating your achievements can boost your motivation and make you feel good about your progress.
I plan my days to reflect my goals. For example, if I planned to record, edit and post a video in seven days, I record during the first two days, edit for the remaining days and post on the seventh.
I refrain from setting unrealistic expectations that are destined to overwhelm and discourage me. For example, piggybacking off of the previous example, I would not wait until the fifth day to film because that’ll leave me with two days to edit which would take up all of my time, stress me out, and force me to neglect my other goals. Be mindful of your time and energy limitations, balance is Key.
Some days you aren’t going to feel like doing anything…but you have to. Do it for yourself, do it with tears in your eyes, do it because you deserve the consistency you never got. Your future self will thank you.
